Freemasonry, often referred to as the order of Free and Accepted Masons, is a globally recognized secret society with roots in the guilds of stonemasons and cathedral builders from the Middle Ages. As the need for cathedral construction waned, these lodges began to welcome honorary members, paving the way for the Freemasonry we know today. While not a religious organization per se, Freemasonry incorporates many religious elements and promotes values such as morality, charity, and law-abiding conduct. Despite its secretive nature, Freemasonry is known for fostering fellowship, moral discipline, and mutual aid among its members.

The Jordan Masonic Lodge has a rich and varied history. Initially, it was the H. Abrams House, as depicted in the rare drawing, This artwork is particularly unique as it provides a glimpse of the town in 1865, predating the advent of photography.
An intriguing detail from the Sanborn map reveals that a skating rink was once located behind the Mitchell Hotel.
It was only around the turn of the 20th century that the Masonic Lodge transitioned into a Masonic building. The photograph on the left captures the edifice as the Masonic Temple in the late 1890s, marking a significant moment in its history.
Additionally, one can observe the structure adjoined to the Temple on the right, which historically functioned as the Grange Hall after the Opera House and was utilized by members of the Grange.
The Sanborn map,of the Masonic Temple photograph, reveals an intriguing addition to the Masonic Temple: an Opera House. This transformation from an ice-skating rink was quite a departure, yet the Opera House quickly gained popularity among the residents, becoming a vibrant hub of cultural activity.
It’s also worth noting the architectural changes reflected on the map, with several buildings having been removed since the previous version.
Sadly, in 1976, the original Masonic Temple and the adjoining Grange Hall succumbed to a fire. However, the building was subsequently reconstructed and stands today as one of the rare Masonic Temples that were constructed by Masons.
