Youth Pole Cross - 11 AM / Adult Grease Pole Climb - 1PM

The Jordan Fall Festival Grease Pole Climb has been an event tradition since the 1990s. Jordan natives David Young and Brian Wheeler were returning from a trip to the Adirondacks and stopped by the Boonville Woodsmen Field Days in Boonville, New York on their way home. They observed many logging events including a Grease Pole Climb. They found it a fun, unique, and exciting team competition that they believed could be brought to Jordan. Since then, the Grease Pole Climb has been held every year. 

The goal of the grease pole climb is to get to the top of the pole in the shortest time. The pole is 28 feet tall and approximately 18” in diameter.  The teams are allowed two chances to reach the top.  If the team does not reach the top, then their standings are determined by the highest point that the top man touched and by the time it took.

Rules:

• Upright grease pole is open to any candidates 18 years or older.
• Candidates aged 14 through 17 require a parent or guardian consent.
• Teams consist of a maximum of 5 participants.
• Team participation fee is $20.00.
• Men and women are both welcome, but compete separately.
• The bottom or base team member may wear ONLY a weight-lifting belt for support.
• The rest of the team may not use any other accessories for assistance.
• Leather belts may be used, but may only be looped within belt loops.

Prizes:

Teams who make it up the pole in first, second, and third place earn awards totaling $1000.00. In addition, the first team to reach the very tip of the grease pole have the opportunity to snag additional bills stapled to the top.

If you’re looking for a fun, safer alternative geared towards kids, we do welcome younger participants in our Kids Grease Pole Cross! Teams are grouped by age in the following age groups:
 

• Kindergarten through second grade
• Third grade through fifth grade
• Sixth grade through eighth grade
• 
  

Parent or guardian consent is required for participation.
