The Lights Shine Bright in Jordan 2017

It was a chilly evening in Jordan when Maddie Wisniewski, the switch master, flipped on the lights at the annual tree lighting event.

In attendance, were nearly 70 friends and family to mark the beginning of the 2017 holiday season. Standing a towering thirty feet, and adored with more than 850 colored LED lights and topped with a star, the Jordan Christmas Tree graces the Veteran’s Park in the center of the village. LBN Bank started off the evening with cups of chili that were prepared by the staff of our neighborhood bank. Auer’s Pizzeria jumped in when the chili ran out. This year’s event was marked with a chorus of Christmas songs lead by guitarist Bill Sims. The tree was dedicated by Mayor Platten.

Not to outdo the tree lighting, was the appearance of Santa! He and the children rode in Ron Davis’s wagon to the Jordan Bramley Library. Bill Flynn, with a wink and a nod, showed Santa the way. Down in the library, the Community Band directed by Maria Hare entertained guests with all the holiday favorites. Friends of the Library raise just shy of $1,000.00 by raffling off 32 baskets, for the Summer Reading Program. Through the generous donations of many we were able to warm up cocoa and coffee, and indulge our sweet tooth with homemade cookies. Even the Jordan Canal Museum was decorated for the holidays! 

And as the night wore away, the story begins.

T’was the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
